Gin Hass

Let's a cocktail this Saturday celebrating the week-end. I have located this recipe on Gin Hass a la Valdemarsro, which I have used on the amount of the different ingredients. • 3 mango syrup
  • ½ lime fruit
  • ice cubes
  • Galvanina limonata - lemon soft drink
  1. Fill ice cubes into a high ball glass

  3. Squeeze the juice of the remaining lime fruit into the glass.
  4. Fill in gin & mango syrup.

Rose gin tonic

I brought a new bottle of gin, not because that I did not have more gin in my house, but because I found a rose flavoured gin in form of Rose Expression Silent Pool.

My friends in Horsens will start to shake, when they read this, as I very easy get carried away, when it comes to the use of flower flavourings. This Lavender meringue is still bringing "night mare thoughts".

I find the flavour profile of this rose gin tonic to be nice and not dominating in any ways. If I have had some dried rose petals, I would have added these as well as a decorating item.
Some years ago I used Fentiman's rose lemonade to make these rose lemonade scones.

Rose gin tomic: - 1 cocktail
  • 6 cl Rose Expression Silent Pool gin
  • 18-24 cl Fentiman's rose lemonade
  • ice cubes
  • dried rose petals - optional
  1. Add the ice cubes into the high ball glass.
  2. Pour in the gin.
  3. Fill up with rose lemonade.
  4. Cheers :-)

Shopping during Summer vacation in August

I have been away again on Summer vacation here in August. This time I have been on vacation in the area of Limfjorden (the Northern part of Jutland). This time I was driving in my car, so therefore I could bring more heavy items and more clothing  compared to my my Summer vacation in July. Besides from various shopping of clothing in the towns of Lemvig, Løgstør, Nykøbing Mors and Thisted I did also bring the following items back with me.

In Thisted I found these located cream puffs in different flavourings (caramel, liquorice & orange) produced by Thy Chokoladen.

In Lemvig I found these two green plants for my home, which can be seen below.

In Lemvig I also brought these three single apple juice produced by Vesterhavsmost in form of Cox Holstein, Elstar & Rød Aroma.

In Lemvig at the same wine shop, where I located the apple juice I found this bottle of rose port and gin a la orange jam from Sevilla. The shop owner provides me with the some serving suggestions for making drinks with both the gin and port. So look around at a later time, where I try out these suggestions.

Finally I locate this yarn of thin silk mohair from Sandness in the colour of light grey, petrol and olive green together with the a sweater recipe at MORS garn.

Elder flower gin tonic - version 1

It is high season for blooming elder flower and I have just finished my first portion of elder flower cordial a la Lønnestræde. Some of it I decided to use for making a new version of this elder flower gin tonic. Instead of using elder flower tonic I used a combination of normal/plain gin tonic together with my freshly made elder flower cordial.

Elder flower gin tonic - version 1: - 1 cocktail
  • 6 cl elder flower gin by "Nordic by Nature"
  • 20-25 cl classic Fever Tree tonic
  • 3 cl elder flower cordial

  1. Pour the gin & elder flower cordial into a high ball glass.
  2. Add in the ice cubes.
  3. Place the stem of elder flower
  4. Fill the glass up with classic tonic.
  5. Enjoy and enjoy the Summer :-)

Gin & magazine shopping in England

I have recently been in UK on a business trip. I had a two night stay at a hotel in Manchester Airport, so in theory I could have travelling with a small suitcase, but as usually I went travelling with my large suitcase, so I could bring back several big bags of 1.4 kg of with my favourite müsli in form of Alpen No Sugar Added Müsli (the Alpen in the blue bags).

I also found several magazines in form of Country Living, Good Housekeeping with focus on Autumn and a magazine only with Christmas food recipes from BBC. And these types of magazine actually have a heavy weight.

And yes, I did find two new gins, one in Manchester Airport and the other one in Billund Airport. The gin selection in Billund Airport is quiet extensive.

The first gin is Chase oak ages sloe & mulberry gin (brought in Billund Airport). I am familiar with sloe gin, but the use of mulberry was new to me. And mulberries is a favourite fruit of mine.

The second gin is 9 Lives blackberry gin liqueur from Silent Pool Distillers (brought in Manchester Airport). The wording 9 lives and small figures of cats on the label was very appealing to me as the "land lady" of a ginger cat.

Gin shopping

Last week-end you was  able to get 20-40% on Danish gin and gin supplements at Kun det bedste, so I was filling up my gin stock. The first thing being added to the virtual shopping basket was these "te tonic tea bag", so you can infuse your gin tonic.

I also brought this rhubarb gin from Østersøens Brænderi together with these rhubarb tonic from Oh Deer Tonic, so I can make another version Danish rhubarb gin tonic as alternative to this rhubarb-strawberry gin tonic.

For those of my guests, which have to drive home I decided to buy a bottle of alcohol-free gin in form of Herbie Virgin.

Citrus gin tonic - Easter Calendar 2019

Today it is Good Friday (Langfredag) being the second day of the Danish Easter vacation. So today, I will enjoy my vacation time with a gin tonic as the third blog post for my Easter Calendar 2019.

The colour of Easter is really yellow in my opinion, and at the same time various citrus fruits also have the colour or yellow/orange, so the theme for this gin tonic is citrus

Citrus Gin Tonic: - 1 serving

  • 9 cl Fentimans Valencian Orange tonic water
  • 1-2 slices of (bllod) orange
  • Ice cubes
  1. Start by adding the ice cubes into the large gin bowl.
  2. Fill in the gin followed by the tonic.
  3. Add in slices of (blood) orange.
  4. Happy Easter.

Celebrating the International Women´s Day with Pink Gin Tonic

Today I am celebrating the International Women´s Day with a gin tonic dressed in pink :-) I have used this recipe on Gordon's pink tonic as starting point, but wanted to have more pink touches to the  colour by using a combination of Fentimans rose lemonade and Fentimans premium tonic in equal ratio. I used a ratio as I wanted to avoid to much rose flavour (identity).

Pink Gin Tonic: - 1 serving
  • 6 cl Gordon's Pink Gin
  • 9 cl Fentimans Rose Lemonade
  • 9 cl Fentimans Premium Tonic
  • 3-4 fresh strawberries - cut into smaller sizes
  • Ice cubes
  1. Start by adding the ice cubes into the large gin bowl.
  2. Fill in the gin followed by the rose lemonade & tonic.
  3. Add in fresh strawberries.
  4. Happy Women's Day

Rose Gin Tonic

In case you have been holding a "white" January, when it is time to enjoy the week-end with a gin tonic. I got this recipe on a gin tonic, when I recently brought some Fentimans Rose Lemonade. It used to a little bit tricky to but the Fentimans lemonade here in Denmark, you had to buy them on-line, but now I find them in my local supermarket.

Some years ago I have a found a recipe on scones (rose lemonade scones) made with Fentimans Rose Lemonade, where I managed to get my good friends in Horsens to buy this specific lemonade, while they were on vacation in UK.

Well, let's get February going with a gin tonic :-)

Rose Gin Tonic: - 1 drinks

  • 6-9 ml Bombay Gin
  • 250 ml Fentimans Rose Lemonade
  • Slices of lemon
  • Ice cubes
  1. Start by adding the ice cubes into the long drink glass.
  2. Fill in the gin followed by the rose lemonade
  3. Add in some slices of lemon
  4. Enjoy.

Gin bowl glasses from Spiegelau - kitchen equipment 34

As a member of the Danish supermarket COOP´s locality program you can here in the period October 2018 - February 2019 collect "stamps", which can be used for discount on different glass type and cocktail mixing equipment from Spiegelau.

I have used some "discount stamps" to buy these big gin bowls, so I have something to serve gin tonics in or other cocktails/mocktails such as these raspberry lemonade. For these raspberry lemonade I did also use the mixing jug as well as this cocktail set. The price with "discount stamps" for two cocktail glasses is 50 DKK (6.60 €) instead of 220 DKK (29.10 €).

Shopping of Thya products

Last week I was yet another rowing trip together with a small group of rowers. This time we were enjoying the Western part of the big Danish fjord system called Limfjorden. In order to get the count of rowers to fit with the number of seats in the rowing boat, one rower had to spend either ½ or a whole day on land.

Being "the shopper" of the group I spend a couple of hours in both Lemvig and Nykøbing Mors, where I trawled the local shops. Besides from buying various cloths in form of rain cloth, training cloth, three new dresses and a long kimono I also found a shop with various special food items (wine, alcohol, tea, confectionery, cheese and jam).

In this shop I found different boxes of confectionery candy at only 20% of the original price due to end of shelf-life day and some local Thya products in form of apple juice and gin. The Thya gin contains local herbs/berries from the local area f Thy such as juniper, buckthorn, blueberry, pine spruce and angelica root. I am looking to taste both the apple juice as well as the gin.

Visit at Beefeater, London

In connection with my first part of the Summer vacation, which I spend some days in London, before participating in jam making course at WI. Here I besides from visiting museums, drinking afternoon tea and filling up my suitcase with various shopping, I also found that it was also possible to visit the Beefeater Distillery. So I took my walking shoes on and went by feet to the distillery for a tour. The tour starts on the gin shop with different types of bottles of Beefeater Gin and various merchandise.

The people in shop are very informative about the difference between the different gins. This shop is also the only place, where you can buy the gin called London Garden (guess what a bottle of this gin found it´s way into my suitcase).

The tour starts with tour of the gin museum, which explain both the bad and good part of the gin history. One part is this gin cat, where you would put a coin in the cat´s mouth and when gin would be poured out of the tap at the cats leg, which way you could break the restrictions on gin sale !!!

After the museum part a guide will explain how gin is created and what types of botanicals is used for gin. Juniper is one botanical, but in the plain Beefeater Gin 10 different botanicals is added.

Afterwards the guide will take you to heart of the distillery, where you can the different pot for distillation from quiet small to large pots. The small pots are for the smaller gin types such as Burrough´s Reserve and London Garden.

The final destination is off cause the bar, where you will be served a classic gin tonic with a slice of orange. According to the tour guide the master distiller Desmond Payne had approved the use of either lemon or orange for the classic gin tonic. But the bar was not allowed to use a slice of lime in the gin tonic. The master distiller was not around, so I could tell him, that I am a big fan of gin tonic with lime.

The next time I am in London I will book a visit to another gin distillery.

Tea and gin shopping in England

In mid June I had my first part of the Summer vacation, which I spend partly in England and partly in Alsace. My trip to England was a combination of some days in London, where I among other things enjoyed both a visit to a gindistillery, an afternoon tea and visits to various museums. The other part of my trip to England was another course at Denman on jam making.

However, I still had time for some shopping such as buying different tea and some new cooking books. This time the tea I brought was refills for my empty tea tins from previous previous tea shopping in London in form of Rose Pouchong from Fortnum & Mason and English Rose and Earl Grey from Whittard. AT Whittard I also found two instant tea in form of Turkish Apple and Cranberry & Raspberry, which taste great cold after brewing.

New bottles of gin also found their way to my suitcase. This also includes a hibiscus salt, which can be used for adding some red/pink colour strips into clear drinks such as gin tonics ! So my good friends in Horsens please consider yourselves warned about strange looking tin tonics, the next time you visit me in Vejle.

The selection of gin in Billund Airport is actually quiet broad and divers compared to the gins available in Copenhagen Airport.Very often I find some new interesting gins, when I travel from Billund Airport. This time it was a rhunbarb & ginger gin from Whitley Neill, which taste great on it's own. The secon gin was the gin London Garden by Beefeater, which only can be brought at the the Beefeater Distillery in London.

Shopping in London

I have just returned from a small vacation to the UK, whicj was a combination of another course at the Women Institute at Denman College with focus on Christmas Afternoon Tea.

Besides from the baking course I also spend a short time in London looking, shopping and enjoying some afternoon tea.

As usual I went over with a big suitcase with plenty of room for both my baked goods as well as some shopping. Luckily my flight ticket had a baggage allowance of 23 kg, which I managed to use expected for 500 g !!!

I brought a Fever Tree cocktail book, Dureé Afternoon Tea recipe book, various magazines, gin, cashmere sweater and some tea (no Christmas teas). I even found an English Christmas calendar, which contains 25 small gifts :-)
